Enea Bastianini dominated the weekend at Silverstone. The Italian racer won Saturday's sprint and then Sunday's grand prix.
MotoGP celebrated its 75th anniversary at Silverstone this year. To celebrate it, Yamaha, Ducati, Honda, Aprilia and KTM created historic and iconic liveries for the anniversary MotoGP race.
In Saturday's sprint, Bastianini was first to cross the line and took his second career victory in the short race.
However, Aleix Espargaro started the main race from the first position, but he failed to have a good start and dropped to fifth place. Francesco Bagnaia, on the other hand, moved into the lead in front of sprint winner Bastianini.
In the following laps, Jorge Martin got ahead of Bastianini. The standings then stabilized and by mid-race they were as follows: Bagnaia, Martin, Espargaro and Bastianini.
Martin took the lead with nine laps to go, while Bastianini moved into third ahead of Espergaro.
The Italian Bastianini picked up the pace in the final laps and with seven laps to go, he moved into second place ahead of teammate Bagnaia.
Bastianini, however, still didn't have enough, and towards the end of the race he started to close in on the long leading Martin. The Ducati rider made a decisive attack on the penultimate lap when he got ahead of the Spaniard and took the lead for the first time in the race, which he held until the finish.
Martin finished the race in second place, returning to the championship lead. The dominance of the Ducati machines was confirmed by Bagnani in third, Marc Marquez in fourth and Fabio Di Giannantonio in fifth. The best rider who didn't start with a Ducati bike was Espergaro with Aprilia in sixth position.
